Default 2009 Precedent_Solenoid Diode Blown, replaced, no run!

Was replacing a shock and arced the ratchet on the A1 post of the motor.

After this there was a burning smell, I popped the controller cover off and the diode on the solenoid was melted and burned. I replaced the diode but the cart still won't run, still smelling burning, is my controller fried?

2009 Presedent Professional Electric 48V
Curtis Controller: 1510A-5250 s/n: 06223P.311340
Motor: Admiral Motors 48V MOT-A2 S/N A20196
Thanks

I think your fears of a damaged controller are correct.

Contact Dave at Revolution Golf Cars for replacement OEM parts or Scotty B at Carts Unlimited for upgrades, both site sponsors.

A word of caution here for all of us: Always disconnect the main battery terminals when working on anything on the carts. It just takes a minute and can save a lot of problems.

The resistor smoking pretty much narrows it down to the controller.
That’s from the controller drawing current through the resistor even though it is technically “off”. When any of the motor posts are shorted, One of the main current MOSFETs in the controller gets toasted which causes it to constantly draw power.
A failure inside the motor can cause that as well, but since we know you bridged the posts with a wrench then we can pretty well assume the motor is not the problem here.

That would explain the burning smell when i reconnect the power....

Thanks, I found one. I replaced controller and the diode. The cart runs fine now.

New Issue! I can't get it to charge...

Also it runs in TOW mode.

I ran the battery down some and it still won't charge. I confirmed the charger works. Any ideas?

I suggest starting a new post so it will gain more attention. We often overlook posts previously solved.

If it runs in tow, I think you have some wiring issues. Did it run in tow before?

Try resetting the OBC for the no charge issue.

Others will be along on the new post.
