Re: g9 missing tensioner cable
I bought a primary sheave for the old G9 style clutch from a popular online dealer that shows it in a parts breakdown online (hint) but believe it is not policy to say here. It was new yamaha part, works great.
I tightened mine up and tested it in a short steep hill from a dead stop. About right it would slowly increase rpm and would take maybe 3-4seconds to get higher rpm and take off strong up the hill. Maybe 30 degree grade and 5' high. Tighter would rev more starting up the hill but took mph off gps top speed. Lower and it did not want to rev when against a load like steep grade or heavy trailer/etc. |

Re: g9 missing tensioner cable
Glad I could help. Mine will take off normal at part throttle, but if I stop on this steep hill or hook a heavy trailer on...it will gradually rev higher in a few seconds and off you go. Without the tensioner it does not rev up and bogs at same rpm as a light throttle takeoff. I could hardly get up this hill with two people on the cart if I stopped at the bottom, I mean with all tires on the hill. After install it would barely move for a few seconds while the rpm climbed then it went right up it. If I were going 5mph there was less difference, but it wants to rev more with it and without it does not much...when you floor it.
I think they use a cable because it does not transmit vibration to the frame under low throttle like the cart was designed to be used, only when you hammer it. Not like we care much anyway, that is a nice fab job there. |

Re: g9 missing tensioner cable
Lol, mine had one and about two years later I looked in there and it was gone. It ran ok and the motor mounts did not seem to move that much under load. But it sure would rev more when pulling or climbing at low speed after I put one on. It was a little different at speed not a lot. I pull boats out of the lake and tow them around as well as trail riding it. Also modded my clutches some to get it to pull better.

Re: g9 missing tensioner cable
tomoreo i'm welding up a new engine mount to replace the one with the engine ten bracket which tore right out of the 2'' tube frame member and broke my s/s ten bolt... now this happend a while age ane i've been running rubber blocks bolted right to the frame mounts, bypassing the old soft mounts.
spriddle gave me the idea with his bolt staight to the frame desine. were the stock mount pulled out completely i've bolted up a L temp. bracket with has worrked well so far. with this bolt to the frame idea there is a slight bit more frame vibration, but i sure more engine torque is getting to the ground with the clutches better alined. i'll be posting pics!! and maybe a burnout vid?? |

Re: g9 missing tensioner cable
I put one on my G2 yesterday. Mine was missing when I bought it. I can't really tell if it makes a difference but it was designed to be there. Could be that running without it could cause the soft rubber engine mount to break? just a thought

Re: g9 missing tensioner cable
Good thought, your more than right, you should check all 4 motor mounts. Mine were broke when i got my car, and those little buggers are expensive!!
The tensioner I made was similar to Saber's |
