86 CC engine trying to run backward

Bought an 86 Club Cart that ran fine, used it about 3 months now won't run. Was told to check gas and spark. Got good spark and fuel in bowl in carb. When trying to spray starting fluid in carb it blew backwards (away from carb opening). was told vavles are bad. My guess would say timing off. would like other input on what I can check to make sure before spending $400 plus for a rebuild. I would like to get the rest of this season out of it before the rebuild. Thanks Ed.

You could try a compression check, but you do have to remember the engine is 23 years old!
it may be do for the $400.00 rebuild kit!

I don't really know that much about the old flatheads, you should try the "search" feature for:
KF82 / FZ340, or Club Car flathead engines!
