A little help
Kinda new to the electric cart world, so looking for advice. I just bought a 2006 36 volt ezgo txt. Cart has a 6" lift and 24" tires. I need a little more power (torque and speed). I think I may have a battery problem because when I floor it to take off or it gets in a small bind, it feels like the motor just starts vibrating and stops turning. It does it less when the batteries are fully charged, but still does it. Top speed is decent, but more is better right. From what I've read, a 48V upgrade would help. Any advice on which parts to buy and where from?
Can someone tell me what the device in the pic is? The black box with the aluminum backing. Thanks for any help. |

Usually your first post is just your introduction, but will try and help.. The block box is your cover for your controller.. The lid that you took off is you forward and reverse switch. You will need to get your meter out and get reading on you whole battery pack and each individual battery and wright them down.. You may want to upgrade your controller first and then think about motor, sparkies are not cheap to upgrade. I am sure others will chime in accordingly.. |

Re: A little help
Thanks for the info. Any idea why I feel the vibrating in the motor and loss of power when I go to take off.

Re: A little help
Once you remove the controller cover take a photo and post in a reply. I am only guessing but since there appears to be a fuse on you battery post connected to the charger + the previous owner may have upgraded to a higher amp controller. However, the picture is a little blury and the typical installation of this fuse goes between the solenoid positive and the + battery post. If so there should be a label indicating such. A shutter could be a result of a low voltage condition therefore as per Markskarts the battery readings after charging and settling for an hour would be helpful.

Re: A little help
First error in this cart is the size of tires and still running 6 gauge cables. You need to get a complete 4 gauge cable set ASAP for starters.

Re: A little help
Thanks for the help guys. Cable upgrade will be next on the list. I plan on upgrading to 48V system in future, so I may jump to the 2ga cables. Thanks again.

Re: A little help
Well, I upgraded to a 4ga cable set, but it didn't help with the performance. The last two days the cart has been very sluggish, better in reverse than in foward for some reason. I'm thinking I have a battery problem because it does good immediately following a charge, but power declines in a matter of 5 minutes.
Q: To check the batteries, just use a regular voltage meter on each battery after a charge? What should the reading be for 6 volt batts? Q: Is there any way to test the controller to see if that's the problem? I removed the controller/solenoid box cover to replace the cables and both looked to be in very good condition. I posted some pics. Can anyone tell what type of controller I have? |

Re: A little help
Your picture is too blurry to read any #s. Google those Curtis #s and tell us what you have?
If you are going to try to upgrade the cart, you will need a good digital voltage meter. Get a pack reading and then tape the meter to the pack end posts and drive it. Tell us how low the pack voltage goes when you drive off and it shudders..... then we will tell you what that means |
