If I bypassed the controller how much risk is there in harming the motor or any other components? Also how long can you run it like that?

If it is a test it is not meant to be run like that. Much like a jumped solenoid. My guess is if you bypass a speed controller you will only get one speed

I ment by run, how many seconds or minutes. I have read before on some of the test, only to run so long or it can harm components.

Thanks again for all the help. I will let you know the out come when I recieve and install the new controler.

it wont hurt anything, it just direct, no controlled speed. I reread your post and I had a customer do the same thing, but only got a couple of batteries wrong. It took out the reed switch

Correct. On this cart the charger recep does not have a reed switch. Should it????
