Default driven clutch

I have 87 ds and the driven clutch does not open all the way. Im thinking it should open until the belt is down in the bottom of the pulley at high speed. It was stuck partialy open when I bought it. I have removed it and disassembled and clean entire unit. Now it returns completely and is freed up. What is does is drop into pulley about 1 inch and thats it.I have had it apart several times and its very free to open and close. Im not seing something. Any ideas are appreciated. THANKS !

drive clutch shiny wear mark stops 1/2 " below top edge. Is that normal or should go to top ?

Im not really sure how the driven clutch works. I dont see how centrifical force opens it up. Does the drive hub pull it open with the belt when it closes ?

I would start by checking the length and width of your drive belt
against a new belt. Then check motor mounts for movement.

Take a sec and verify the new belts size.

Checked the new belt and its the same size as the old one. Motor mounts are tight also. My question is does the front drive clutch actually pull the belt into the driven clutch causing it to open ? Like I stated before the belt is riding about 1 inch down in the drive clutch when its closed. Could that be the problem ? Should it be all the way to the top when its closed. If somebody could look at theres and let me know I would appreciate it. I thought about pulling them both off and sending them in to get reworked. Thanks for any help.

The belt on the drive clutch should be almost flush with the top of the pulley when it's at WOT. Try this; remove the belt and pull the sheaves of the driven clutch together by hand. Hang the the belt between the sheaves and see where it sits. If it's pretty flush then the problem maybe the driven not opening enough to allow full range.

Chris.

My belt is down in the drive cluch at WOT , not alot but it might be enough to be hurting me. So I would say that is probably what is wrong. I guess that comes apart next after I find a puller. Thanks for your help !
