Question loss of power under load

Hello all you fellow carters. First I like to say thanks for all the great threads and the wealth of info you guys provide to us new to the cart world.
I have a issue with my 88 marathon and its about to my witts end..
Fresh rebuild, with lots of new parts. ie HEI, F/R switch, carb, fuel pump, just about everything and then some.
My issue is, it runs great when cold and after about 2-3 min. it looses power. It dosnt die, it just feels like someone thru out an anchor.
Put it on jack stands and it will run all day long.
Any help would be appreciated and help me from loosing my sanity.
compression 150
fuel- good stream
HEI- seems to working fine. Blew 2 front seals till I changed over from stock coil set-up
drive-train opens and closes with the accel.

Thanks Mike

I went through that with an 88 I had, turned the brake lining had come loose from the shoe and was binding in the drum.

I might look a little more, but it was doing it before I put new shoes and drums on it.
Do you think it could possiable be the drive clutch hangin up once it gets warm?
Thanks for the reply.

It might be worth looking at the driven clutch when you are driving (or better still get someone else to look at it). Sometimes if the spring is weak the clutch will open too far and allow the belt to fall into the center of the clutch. People who have experienced this compare it to suddenly dropping an auto into second gear.

Good luck
Dave

The govenor is disconnected already. Thats kinda what I was thinking Dav. Is there a way to tell if its opening to far? On jacks it opens all the way up and will run all day long. It's when we put a load on it it will drop off.

Thanks mike

If this is what the problem is it will be obvious as you watch the clutch under load. It will appear that the belt is low down in the clutch and then it will suddenly snap open and the belt will fall onto the spindle.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check that when it gets back from paint.

OK it appears to be the driven cutch is opening up to far as you said. Got the thing off and removed the set screw. should it be hard to pull the helix off? I have a set of tripel claw pullers on it and soking in PB blaster and still cant get it to move.I see in other threads where they have a clip to remove. I dont seem to have one, thus the set screw keeps the shaft and outer cover togeather to hold the spring. I hope this is making sence. any help is appreciated.
