81 g1
I just got my g1 engine, i put new seals, bearings, piston, rings, honed it out, i did not change the crank or cylinder, i tried to start it up and its got a pretty loud knock, and did not idle good, i think i missed up, i only lined the muffler up and did not mount it with the clamps or the springs, i remember awhile back about if that muffler not hooked up it will be loud and not run good? Im sure its has to do with back pressure? Some one please give me someinput, i dont want to take apart again? And the crank seemed real tight still, thanks

Re: 81 g1
You want to mount the muffler the way it should be to achieve the proper back pressure.

Re: 81 g1
Most 2 stroke you have to bore the cylinder and put an oversize piston in it. They wear the cylinder more than a 4 cycle does. You have to measure the cylinder to find out, usually close to the top. If its too big the rings will not seal and you lose compression. You can put some oil in there and test comp again it will seal the rings temporary, like a teaspoon of oil. Cylinder can also wear in an egg shape usually intake/exhaust sides wear more. The cylinder/piston kits are pretty cheap if you don't have access to place that can bore it. Here we have lots of sleds and everyone can bore them. If not the case did you put the rings in correctly, head gasket good, etc.

Re: 81 g1
Used to be they would bore one for 30-40 but not had one done in a while. You have to check yours to see what size it is and if it needs it, and if so what oversize piston you need to bore it for. Lots of places sell them seems like someone would sell just the cylinder.
