XRT 950 solenoid issues
I am working on a friends work cart. He has replaced the starter solenoid three times in the past year or so, and asked me if I could see why.
When I asked about the solenoid that was in it, he informed me that they had picked it up at the local parts store. I knew that was a red flag. I attempted to get the part at the closest clubcar dealer to me, however the solenoid was on backorder and after waiting several weeks ,I ordered it on online. The motor in the cart is a 479 cc Vangard and it has a flywheel starter. The solenoid mounts onto the starter with the bottom of the solenoid fastened to the starter by a plumbers strap that you tighten with a screwdriver. There are three large wire that go to two large posts on the solenoid and there is just one small green wire that goes to one small post on the solenoid. On the starter there is a small metal strap that runs the length of the starter body, and the bottom of the solenoid must make contact with that strap or the solenoid will not engage. I did receive the new solenoid and it did not have the slots to put the plumbers strap thru to fasten it to the starter, but I can rig something to so that. However there a TWO LARGE AND TWO SMALL posts on the new solenoid. The old one only had one small post. The new solenoid is much heavier duty then the old one which may explain the constant replacing. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the four posts on the new solenoid ? |
