shop recommendations- Nor Cal

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a shop that can work on my 87 Marathon? Im near Sacramento, so maybe somewhere within 100 miles? Every place I have contacted only does electric carts or nothing that old.

I've thrown a ton of parts at it and it still doesn't run right. Will only get up to 12-13 mph and its ungoverned, and struggles to make it up a hill. I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to this. Considered selling it, but wife really digs it. We bought to use at campgrounds and such.

New belts
Top end rebuilt
New carb
New fuel pump
Compression was around 110 last time I checked
22" tires

My first thought is secondary clutch is worn out.

My second thought is that you are better off cleaning the original carburetor. The new cheap ones are junk.

Did you check the crank seals when you did the top end?
Can you try pulling the choke out just a little to see if it runs any better?
Pull it until it either runs better or bogs down, let us know which one it does.

By secondary clutch I assume you are talking about the "driven" clutch attached to the axle? Just double checking as I am still learning the cart lingo.

Unfortunately I do not have the original carb, someone had put one on made for an 88. the choke cable plate was missing too. I sourced that plate and put an original style carb back on.

pulling the choke bogs it down. Definitely doesn't make it run better.

Take the drive belt off. See if you can squeeze the plates together on the driven clutch. If you can make them lean together with one hand, they are worn. There should be no movement at all.

Found a guy that said he was familiar with working on golf carts. He is certain the engine is not the problem, but the drive train. Replaced the secondary clutch, that did not fix anything. He wants to try replacing the primary clutch. But the wife is fed up with throwing money at this thing, she says just leave it at doing only 11-12 mph.
