It actually has a brand new aftermarket clutch on it, the crank and Rod journals looked good so I didn't bother miking anything on the first build (wish I would have)... I know rookie mistake. Pretty sure I found the problem the bottom end is sloppier than a 5-cent dime whore...lol. the crank is actually below minimum it's at 1.371 and limit is 1.375".... and the rods are at minimum...😳. To my surprise it's not a hard rod knock like you would think more like a tap it rattle but pretty confident now that's the racket it's making but surprisingly it's not all beat up with that much slop the bearing journals look great in the rod end looks just fine as well. I don't really want to put the money into the crank I wonder if I can find oversized rods on the bottom end?....

Although I think I can see some marks on the crank, It is very rare for these cranks to get below spec. The aluminum rods however do wear, particularly if the oil is not changed regularly. At this stage I would be tempted to get a new set of rods and with a light film of oil applied, fit them and check for any play. If it is minimal I would then try them and see if the engine runs quieter. This is just an inexpensive experiment and as you say, it has been running fine so far as it is. If however, you still have some slop, then a new crank if you can get one is going to turn this into an expensive exercise.

Again I agree with the nincompoop.

Hardened steel crank vs aluminum rods. The crank does tend to gall up if run low from the aluminum rods but rarely if ever actually really “wears”. I’d get some new rods and let it rip.

Why do you always make me agree with you?

That's why I drink Vodka. But if you are used to American beers, you obviously can't take the real stuff.
You have to agree with me because I am usually right 😆

Cartmaster, I was thinking the same thing and was surprised when the crank miced below spec. The journal looks funky in the pic but actually is in good shape. I'm getting my specs from the ezgo robin repair manual.
