![]() Hi Guys, did some work to the cart and it would appear that the fuel pump is not pushing out any fuel. I can feel a bit of air coming out the hose when it is disconected from the carb and the engine is cranking but no fuel. I guess I should prime the pump and see if it has somehow lost its fuel. Any tips on how to do this? I tried to search it and the info seemed a bit thin.
thanks (85 marathon) Jim |

![]() Shouldn't need to prime. Have you tried to hook up the hose and see if you get pressure from the outlet end of the pump going to the carb? It may have a bad diaphram

![]() Hi, I removed the hose and cranked the engine and I thought that I could feel air coming out of the fuel pump outlet hose but no fuel came out. How strong should the puffs of air be that come out of the outlet? Would they be powerful blasts of air or would they be relatively soft?

![]() It is a fairly low pressure system. Make sure the pick up tube in the tank is not clogged and that the vacuum tube to the crank case is not cracked or leaking .

![]() Mine isn't pumping fuel either. Replaced the line and checked the straw in the tank and felt the output side of the fuel pump and nothing. Took it off, pretty low pressure, I can block the air with my finger, just wondering how much pressure should there be approx?

![]() Hi ScottyB, where would the vacum tube be that is on the crank case (roughly) I can't see to find it in the manual's. The cart is fairly old and I suspect that it is probely damaged/clogged in some way as everything seems a bit old.
Rusty, thanks for the info on the amount of pressure we should expect coming out of the pump. Jim |

![]() Fuel line is cheap, get 4 feet of it and replace it all. Check and clean the pick up in the tank, replace the fuel filter while your at it. Chances are, your problem will be fixed and the cart will love it's new parts.
All told, 1-1/2 hours (including the trip to the hardware/parts store) and your up and running. ![]() |

![]() Hi, i did the fuel filter, the lines to the fuel filter and in and around the carb. I guess I will change the pick up and the first flex section of hose and give that a try. It was working before I cleaned the carb and adjusted the throttle cable. I also disconnected the hill brake to assist in changing the carpet/floor mat, is there something in the brake that would prevent the fuel from moving?

![]() I found out what the issue with the fuel pump was. I had the cart jacked up at the back so I could work on it. the tank was not filled and the angle perhaps gave me an empty tank even though the level on the cap said 1/4. Oh well, I guess I probably needed to change the fuel lines and other items anyways.
Felling a bit dumb right now, Thanks for all your help and suggestions though. Jim |
