04 ezgo pds sparked now no power
So I was installing an led battery gauge the other night and accidentally touched the positive connection to the negative connection on the back of the meter.....sparked briefly then separated. Now I have no power at the cart. No movement , no reverse sounds and no diagnostic beeps. nothing.
The cart will charge and the lights work fine. I replaced the solenoid but that did not help. I checked the reed switch and it was ok. The batteries are fine. Any ideas at all? I have googled this topic for hours and found nothing that helped,so sorry if I missed the answer. Thanks |

Re: 04 ezgo pds sparked now no power
Welcome to BGW!
Sounds like you might have learned a very expensive lesson. Always place the Run/Row switch in the Tow position when working with the electrical system and never install or uninstall anything with battery connected. (When connecting something to the main B+ and B- terminals of the battery pack, disconnect one of the interconnecting cable within the pack) Check for B+ at J-1 Pins, 1, 4, 5, 8 & 9 and at Pin 2 in Reverse or Pin 3 in Forward. Then with throttle depressed, check for B+ at J-4 Pins 1 & 2 If you've got B+ on all those pins and the solenoid isn't clicking, the controller is probably bad. |

Thanks for the response! Am I checking the pins ON the controller or the pins in the wire that plug into the controller.

Wait, with any kind of luck your solenoid is not activating.
...if that's the case you may have smoked the peddle box micro, or the F&R micro switch. Good luck. |

Re: 04 ezgo pds sparked now no power
Sorry thought I completed my last post, but I sent by accident.
I am getting b+ voltage on pins 1,2,6,7 and 8. F1 and f2 post are both 9.58 b+ all on the controller unit. |

I am not getting power to Any wire on the back of the key switch or the f&r switch. Checked the misco switch and tried to jump it with a wire and nothing?

There are some conflicts in the above two posts. If you are getting B+ on J-1 Pins 1 and 2, you will be getting voltage on the back of the F/R switch, unless the wires are disconnected. If you are getting B+ on J-1 Pin-8, you will get B+ on the back of the Key Switch unless the wires are disconnected. Having B+ on J-1 Pins 6 and 7 tells me the solenoid is not being activated, which we already knew, but it also tells me the coil is good, which was likely since two different solenoids have bee tried. Let's try this again. With Key on, F/R in F and pedal pressed, what is the voltage at, and only at: (Note: All Plugs are plugged into their respective Jacks and all in-lin connectors are connected.) 1. J-1 Pin-1 2. J-1 Pin-2 3. J-1 Pin-3 4. J-1 Pin-4 5. J-1 Pin-5 6. J-1 Pin-8 7. J-1 Pin-9 8. J-4 Pin-1 9. J-4 Pin-2 What I'm are trying to do is find out if the controller is being told to activate the solenoid. IF it is and solenoid isn't being activated, the controller is bad. IF it isn't being told to activate the solenoid, something outside the controller is bad. |

Re: 04 ezgo pds sparked now no power
Thanks everyone for the responses! I did Learn a very expensive lesson. Put the vehicle in tow mode and disconnect the battery before working on the electronics. I am usually very handy and good at what I do......but not this time.
I fried the controller with that .5 second spark. I bought a used one off a member here, dropped and mounted into place and presto. Cart was up and running. cost of solenoid which was to needed 30 Used controller 130 Crappy led guage 25 ended up not hooking up Thanks again for the help. |
