Marathon brake cable connection
I'm rebuilding a Marathon that the previous owner brutally cut everything out. So I have this brake spring:
Does this just hang down? On my newer buggy it is connected to the frame, but not sure how this one connects. If it just hangs, I know the brake cables will hold it up, but that does not seem right. what and I missing? |

Re: Marathon brake cable connection
I'm looking at the service manual for Marathon model years '89-'93. The part in question is called the compensating linkage. The bar on the left side (of picture) with the two holes in it is called the equalizer and is where the brake cables connect. The end on the right side (of picture) connects to the brake pedal arm where it is attached to the frame under the floor. There is some variation on how the brake cables connect depending on model year.
Sorry I am unable to scan in a picture from the manual. |

Re: Marathon brake cable connection
Thanks, Kernal. Does the equalizer connect to the frame? I'm not sure how this will work without something solid to anchor the brake cables.

Re: Marathon brake cable connection
Looks like the brake cables fit into a holder built into the frame.
The front of linkage is attached to a lever arm on the brake pedal assemble. Other than that, it "Floats" |

Re: Marathon brake cable connection
The brake cables go through a crossmember just before connecting to the equalizer so the entire linkage is pivoting on the brake pedal arm on one end and hangs by the brake cables on the other but since the brake cables go through the frame just before connecting to the equalizer the whole affair is pretty secure and will be very tight when the hill brake is engaged.
By the way, the pivot end is connected with a bolt and cotter pin on the brake pedal arm. Only one place it can go and should be pretty obvious. Edit: Johnnieb's picture is similar to what I am looking at. |
