16 12 voltage reducer fail
I was asked to install a light kit on a DS. No problem... couple hours ready to flip the switch and poof. Lights on... lights off. I look at the reducer and instead of the 48 12 I usually use I see its a 16 12. I hooked it up wrong. All my fault for not checking voltage before energizing the lights but its done now. I had the negative from the reducer on bat#6 and light kit positive on #1. What did I blow? Both lights and reducer is RH. Any help would be great.

Re: 16 12 voltage reducer fail
I am thinking you probably just blew the reducer. It reduced the voltage for a few seconds but couldn't handle it so it blew and now is outputting nothing.
I did this once on a voltage readout, i accidentally ordered a 12v and put it on a 48v cart. Josh |

Re: 16 12 voltage reducer fail
I was thinking the same but hoping for a cheap hidden fuse. The positive wire is fused but that did not blow. I will have to check to see if I have output tomorrow.

A better converter would have a mechanical reset breaker.

Re: 16 12 voltage reducer fail
Most reducers will be damaged if you hook them up wrong.

A fuse wouldn't blow unless the is a short, there was no short just too many volts for your equipment. I'm sure there are a million different reducers but I am using a 30a madjax.

Reverse and over voltage protection comes at a price

Re: 16 12 voltage reducer fail
I have used the 30amp madjax with great results. I have one right now that is going on my new build.
