I used the G 22 video as a guide on how to do it.I also removed tire to get the impact gun in from below.I was not able to use a regular gear puller but the special yamaha puller on the right in Dave's pic worked great. On final note be careful to not lose the key holding the second part of the sheaf on.

Ok so now I'm confused. I spoke with Don at Plowmans and Tom at cart parts plus. Don says I need to replace the entire clutch because both sheaves are balanced with each other and I need that spring and new jets that will give me loads of torque. Price is about 200. Tom says I just need a sliding machined sheave and maybe a new belt. He says a spring will kill all my top end. That's about 100. Sooooo...what do I need to buy. What should I get? If I shouldn't out a new spring on, why does tom sell a power kit that includes a spring?

I made a homemade puller. It worked great on my G8.

However I would not recommend the white torque spring. It shattered my sliding sheave. It had a jumpy feeling too. It was moving before it would start. It did have torque but I think it was too much for the clutch. I don't have any experience with any other color springs. I put a U max spring in after that and haven't had any issues since.

Yep, get that yucky white spring outta there. I dont like the "cut sheave" either (takes too much strength out of it. I got my own pics of carts i repaired cause of that "'sploded clutch thing" too. Put a Umax spring, no cut sheave (use a yamaha one), omit the white plastic washer if you want (helps a little, like the cut sheave, without removing metal on the clutch). Also, if the snap ring is still there (or missing) replace it with the "spacer" instead (looks like it might be making its way to the transmission)..

Ok so should I just replace the outer sheave and no spring? Cartpartsplus has a machined sheave that looks good. Where do I get a max spring? Are they all the same? Are the any modifications that I need to make to put it in?

OEM clutch parts would be best. With the u-max spring you shouldn't need a machined sheave.

JN6-G6270-02-KT sliding sheave

90508-45849-00 torsion spring ( u-max G23, G27 )

The U-Max spring is an OEM part designed to be used on a Yamaha. There are many aftermarket sheaves available.

I just re-read this from the beginning. If Plowmans has a kit for the G1, then that's the direction that I would go. $ well spent for parts that work. Don knows Yamaha carts.
