92 club car DS too fast, high RPM
I have a 92 club car ds which i recently rebuilt. The engine runs great, but i have an issue now where when i press the gas pedal its all or nothing on the throttle. The only way to not keep the cart from going straight to 3400 rpm is to take your foot off the gas pedal to stop the engine. As soon as the pedal is pressed it goes right to 3400 rpm with no in between. It doesn't matter how much or how little the pedal is pressed the engine goes right to 3400 rpm. Any thoughts on what to check in order to get some throttle control from the pedal would be greatly appreciated. There is no governor and the carb has been rebuilt. Thank you everyone.

Take the air cleaner off and look down the air horn of the carb as you hit the gas. It sounds like your main butterfly valve is either stuck open or not there at all.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the butterfly valve and it is there and is intact. it also is closed when not running. when i put the cart into test mode and press the gas i can see it open as well. Anything else you can think of? I really appreciate the feedback.

Re: 92 club car DS too fast, high RPM
Theres 3 gaskets between the carb and the head. If any are missing or damaged you'll have an air leak which will make it run fast like that.
Also check the adjustment of the throttle cable to the governor. There should be slack on it when the pedal is up, and it should only just barely pull the throttle arm when you start to push the pedal. |
