Default 1998 club car DS controller conversion to Alltrax

Just looking for some help before I change out my curtis controller to alltrax regen2 that I just got from revolution. The instructions mention to remove the regen solenoid. Can someone confirm this. Secondly, it mentions a 6 amp diode across the main solenoid as well as 200amp. I currently only have one on the low voltage wires. Are both needed?

I need a reminder how to bypass the charger. Grey wire to ground?

I think you are talking about the dynamic brake solenoid which is the second solenoid in line and will not be used with the Alltrax controller. (toss it)

The instructions and accompanying diagram should illustrate a "Regen" diode which is a 6amp (6A6) 660v diode on the big posts with the striped or banded side on the battery pack post. (This is needed to protect the controller in a surge condition from the regenerative braking system with loss of ignition power)

And you should also have a suppression diode installed on the small posts to protect it when the energizing coil opens. David would have sent you one with the new solenoid. Just like the regen diode, this suppression diode MUST be installed with the striped or banded side on the same small post the light blue wire (positive activation wire) is installed on.

You MUST install both diodes (regen & suppression) just as described and as illustrated with you Alltrax information and drawing.

For OBC bypassing you need to run both the black 10g wire and the grey "sense" wire from the back of the charger receptacle directly to the pack negative battery post. This is just for testing. (If it is for a permanent OBC removal, then you also need to connect the Blue and White wires together on the Harness side of the OBC 6-pin connector with a paperclip or stiff piece of wire.)

The regen diode would have came from Alltrax. It should have been in the box with the fuse and installation hardware. If you bought the solenoid from David, he would have usually sent you a suppression diode based on Alltrax's most recent stance on the need for it on the energizing coil. (Call him if questionable)

You no longer need a pre-charge resistor as with your factory configuration as that is now handled by the Alltrax controller through the run/tow switch.

For clarity:
2 diodes needed to be correctly installed on your new set-up.
A regen diode on the the large posts
A suppression diode on the small posts
(No pre-charge resistor needed anymore)

I received the diode. Everything is back in. Do I need to connect the 3 wired on the motor. Green, black red connector?

That's the speed sensor. Yes

Thanks. Hooked all up and cart still isn't moving! Solenoid engages and I hear a swirling noise at the motor, but no movement.

I don't know what the swirling noise could be. For me the next step would be to download the toolkit and check what's going on. Go to the Monitor page and see if you got any errors, make sure you have the right throttle selected. etc

Swirling noise at the motor is most curious.
Did the cart run before the conversion?

If no - it may be running now ... with a broken drive spline or ?
Does the swirling noise increase or come and go with the gas pedal movement?

The cart was not running before what we assumed was bad controller, but when I jacked it up and put power to the motor it did turn the wheel. Is there a motor test I can do now that the controller is working?
