I’d go to the above link before some random amazon seller. Scottyb usually has the best prices, he’s a site sponsor, ships really fast, and answers all your questions. |

More importantly, you can get an XCT48500-PDS, a MZJ400 solenoid, solenoid mounting bracket with hole for run/tow switch, suppression diode, regen diode and hardware for less than the price of the XCT alone from Amazon. Plus you get outstanding installation instructions and customer support. Check this out, scroll down to Item # 6 (XCT500PDS) https://www.cartsunlimited.net/alltrax-xct-sepex--.html |

A stock solenoid is only rated for 85A, so it is marginal for a stock controller. While cruising at road speeds, the motor typically draws somewhere between 50 and 75 amps. Tall tires, a rear seat and more than two people onboard will up that a little and driving at walking speeds will up that a lot. The MZJ400 is 400A continuous and 1000A peak, so it will do the job and then some. Also, if you decide to up the battery pack voltage to 42V or 48V in the future, you won't have to replace it since unlike most solenoids, it works at 36V, 42V and 48V. Cable size: Attached is the Alltrax recommendations for cable size. 2Ga ought to be thick enough for your application. The yardstick for cable size is how warm the cables get. More than about 10°F above ambient after a hard run means the cables are to small (or defective). |
