Default 2004 Villager IQ System Operation

I just purchased my next project, its a Villager 4 48v IQ, Serial # FQ0243-XXXXX.

I have restored several series carts; this is my first with the IQ system. Cart appears to have a stock motor and a remanufactured 250A controller.

It runs real smooth accelerates to 19/20 MPH (on the flat), then coasts and picks up again when speed drops.

Am I correct in assuming this is normal for the IQ system and the controller is responding to the speed sensor signal and limiting the speed?

Given its current performance is not stock what has likely been done to the cart to boost its performance? Speed Code? Speed Magnet? Both?

My plan for this cart is new paint, LED lights, new wheels/tires, new seat covers, attend to a few mechanical needs and then to sell in my coastal community. “Convertible” carts are popular here, so no need for a roof. 19/20 MPH is OK as there is an 18 MPH speed limit, but I’d like to squeeze out a few more MPH if it can be done for minimal cost – any ideas?

I read through some old threads on related subjects and found Sergio's test to determine if you have a stock or speed magnet installed. He is an incredible wealth of knowledge.

Sergio's Speed Sensor Test.

I got exactly 12 pulses for half a revolution of the wheel. That means I have a stock magnet installed. Given I'm maxing out at 19/20 MPH, I conclude I must have speed code 4.

Question now becomes: would I squeeze a few more MPH out of the cart if I installed a speed magnet?

I'm no expert but I thought most villagers ran in the 25mph range. That rebuilt controller is probably not programed for that. I also believe that the villager has a higher geared-lower numerically rear axle for additional speed. A speed magnet could gain you a couple miles an hour and possibly more if it has the correct axle.

Thanks Reddawg454 - a speed magnet may be in my future.

That Villager is a 2002 not 2004 as per serial number. The Villager LSV has a 10.3 axle ratio instead of standard 12.3 for all the rest of Club Car. As said above, if it was a Villager LSV, it would have a max of 25mph which included the axle ratio. Serial number for Villager LSV would start with VU or VV. So, this is just a standard CC IQ system with 250A controller.

My mistake with the year, guess I "fat fingered" that.

So is my assumption stock with speed code 4 correct? and would I gain a few MPH with high a speed magnet?
