Default Broken/bent govenor?

So the machanic at the local shop said my govenor may be broken or bent?! Could this cause sluggish performance? I thought the govenor just reduced speed. Would it also may the cart seem like it was knocking or loose power?

I wonder why the machanic suggested this possibly was the problem? They cleaned the carb and did a full service they said. The cart seems worse now than before. I have to advance the idle just to keep the cart runing. Often I have to pump the accelerator when trying to take off. The cart dies otherwise. It only backfired some prior to service. Frustrating.

I don't know why they would send the cart back to you like that? I must be missing something here....

Possibly I should get a second oppinion. I am mechanically inclined, but don't know about this type stuff. I have a Club Car manual for an older cart, I guess I can look to see how close things are.

Take it back and have them get it running. You paid them to make it run better not worse.

Have him point out where the governor is bent and where it is rubbing/touching to make the decrease in performance. Have him explain to you how it being bent is causing the problems.

There is no accelerator pump in the carb so pumping the pedal kinda like the preinjected days doesn't work.
The only thing I can think from pumping the pedal would be you are changing the air/fuel ratio enough to get it to start.
That would lead me to think the low speed circuit of the carb is not fully cleaned/open or the float is adjusted a shad bit low.
Do you have to choke it often?
Take it back and explain that it runs worse than before and they need to correct the problem you have already paid for.
Good repair shops are supposed to be professionals but they are also human.
Good luck and keep us posted on this.

thanks for the info. I have never had to choke it. It will just not take off unless i pump the accelerator. It will sit idle and run most of the time, once I get it started. I plan on calling the shop tomorrow and take it back. Let ya'll know what they say. Could the carb jet have anything to do with this? I know I have a .45 jet. Hopefully the mechanic can dial in the right tune-up. WIsh I knew more about it so I could just fix it.

I am having issues with my 1992 EZGO marathon acting very sluggish during operation. I have replaces the coil, carb and fuel pump. I inspected the pick up coil and cleaned the pick up disk. the engine runs fine at idle when I try to drive it, it feel like there is a anchor tied to the cart. I have seen mention of the governor. the one on my cart is tightened all the way. Can the governor get stuck or break, and can it be checked with out taking the rear end apart.
