Default sweet smell hot controller

was just out riden around the farm with the wife, let her drive some and she drives much much slower than i do, than we started smelling something really sweet. of coarse we were up near the strange neighbors house and the first thing she says is "you smell that, what does meth smell like". I told her not like that, at least from what i know, we kept on ridn around and relized the smell was from the cart. when we got it back to the house i looked under the seat and could detect the smell coming from around the controller, and it was really hot. the controller is less than 6 months old. oh and the strange neighbors 72 year old grand mother was arrested for manufacturing meth about a year ago thats why every strange smell is meth now in my wife's nostrils

D&D 480v controller 36-48v

Is that a Logisystems 480 controller? What voltage are you running and what solenoid? Did you check to see if any of the cables were getting hot?

well just looked at it again and all the controller says is d&d motor systems the solenoid says w-r/rbm looks like it has a RU symbol on the corner of it, now that i think about it the wire from the neg- battery post to the controller was hot and now that i looked at it in the day light the terminal at the controller has some corrosion on it

it is a 36v series cart

Clean & tighten all the cable connections. Take it out for a slow drive and see if you have eliminated the smell (burning) or try to isolate it better. See if the solenoid is getting hot or if it's the controller. Grab all the cables to see which one is hotter than the rest.
