Re: Auto shut off
Your charger may not see a minimal voltage necessary to shut it off.... meaning you may have a bad battery or two.

For example, your sensing circuit is toast so the charger is in a high power state for the entire time it is charging, this could cause your batteries to boil out and then leave you with low water levels, and corrosion of the battery framing. You would constantly add more distilled water to make up for the lost, but eventually your acid levels will be bad because of the spillage lost when the batteries boil/bubble over. You will see other chargers like Lester's with mechanical timers, and even these old style chargers use a sensing circuit to control the voltage and amperage that they charge with to prevent premature wear and tear of the batteries. If you don't care about your cart, then do whatever you want, but if you want to save your "New Batteries" then get the charger fixed. |

golfunguy Not Yet Wild Join Date: Feb 2009 Posts: 2 Battery Charger Question -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just replaced all 6 batteries in my 2005 EZ-GO TXT. I have had them for about 1 month and now my charger flashes red twice as soon as I plug it in then a pause. I think the fault means the batteries are too low to charge or they are over charged. What should I do to check this fault? In addition, if they are over charged is this bad for the batteries and what should I do? BTW, I use the cart most every day and plug it in every day. Thanks for any and all help. golfunguy |

Re: Auto shut off
Yes, it could be a bad battery, even new there is always a chance, I think we need more info like individual battery voltages and the output voltage on the charger when it is on the cart.

Re: Auto shut off
No such thing as best and cheap. It's either or. If i were going to buy one I'd go for a dual voltage charger, 36-48 volts.
