Big tires put an increased load on all the electronics. Ideally you would upgrade the drive system and then the load (the load being big tires, extra seating, off-road terrain, etc).

If you increase the load first the system will be over taxed. The weak link in the chain may come anywhere I said it needs upgrading. I can't say exactly where that is going to be cuz sometimes it is the controller and sometimes the F&R, other times the solenoid or cables, depends upon the cart... I will say the Series cart will take this abuse better than some other types. Whatever you run make sure all your connections are clean and tight.
And if you read all the battery stuff on my website you will be miles ahead of the next guy (bring a DVM and/or hydrometer when you go looking at carts)

I don't know what a DVM or a hydrometer is.

Just thought of something else...

Let's say that I purchase a golf cart, purchase a controller kit from you, and upgrade the cables to 2 ga. At that point am I "safe" to install the lift kit? Or, do I need to actually upgrade the motor? (or, other parts)

Question regarding chargers:

I have read that some chargers are external and some are "built-in" the cart. Is this true? If so, how do I differentiate. It seems to me that an on-board charger would be more ideal.

Hydrometer = tool for measuring the specific gravity of a battery cell.

Specific Gravity = a measure of a battery cell's activity or health

DVM =- Digital Voltmeter

The stock motor is good for lots of upgrades including 48v conversions. Motor upgrades are only for the most extreme carts. 4g cables are good for most cart builds...

Most stand alone chargers are the old transformer type = reliable high amperage output.
Most onboard chargers are microprocessor type chargers that have a lower amp output. Both are good.

Scottyb,

I read everything you posted on your website regarding batteries. The only thing I didn't read is which battery type you recommend purchasing? What type of batteries do you use?

What about the brand Continental?

I learned by looking at their website that they make the Trojan batteries. Same quaility? Opinions?
