Default 97 Ez go DCS (Good Starting Point For Build?)

I am looking at a 97 dcs for about $400. Body, motor, frame, axle all look good. No charger. I'm sure the batteries are no good. Seller says it will run. I am looking to upgrade to 48V (Charger and batteries, no big deal) upgrade to 500A Altrax, 2awg, etc. Is there any reason this year/model wouldn't be a good starting point? Also with regard to the 48V (I know this horse has been beaten, but please humor me as I can't seem to find the old threads) is buying 8 6V batteries worth the money compared to 6 8V. I will be lifting the cart and running 22-23" tires. Feel free to add any advise I didn't ask.

Pass on the DCS cart. Find a series cart 1994 and up. You will be better off in the long run.

Better off how? Would you mind expounding? I read on your site about heat build up in regen motors. I am not looking for anything radical, about 23-25mph and torque for a grade or decent hill. Thanks in advance for your help. Would rather call and discuss, but didn't want to bother.

DCS was he predecessor to the PDs system. It was made for a few years then stopped. They blow controllers in low voltage situations, They are better if controller is after market upgrade but still a Series cart is better for what you want to do with it.

I thought a series cart would be hard to get decent speed out of. Also if i am replacing all electronics, would it be feasible to order a series controller and add a HP series motor? Just a thought.

$400 is too much to pay for a cart and start ripping the operating system out of it and buying wiring harnesses, motors, F&Rs and all ... my opinion. Sepex for street speed builds and series for off road. You kind of have to pick one use or the other.... Build a cart to do both ~ it won't do either well
