Blown fuse
Recently acquired a 1994 Medalist. Seller said it shuddered before it died. It had a lot of disconnected wires and pedal switch had been fried. Ordered a new pedal switch (Thanks Scottyb, it got here today-that was fast). While I was waiting on switch, I made new 4 gauge cables and installed larger bus bars in my FNR. After I installed the pedal switch, I reconnected all wires using a wiring diagram from EZGO Service manual.
I went thru the EZ-GO troubleshooting flow chart, and it said replace controller. Replaced controller with the one I had from my TXT upgrade, and it ran. Went for a test drive for about 1/4 mile, as soon as I started up the first slope (no more than 20 degrees), it stopped. Had volt meter with me, so I checked voltage-37.8 on pack and 0 volts at end of large fuse connected to battery. I felt of the controller and solenoid and both were cool to the touch. I did not think about feeling of the motor. I noticed that the fuse was sort of flexible while I was attaching it for the first time. (It has '60' marked on it, I suppose 60 amp fuse.) Is this normal or could it have been damaged when the controller fried? I have another fuse somewhere, but should I install it, or is there a way to check for the problem without taking a chance on melting another fuse? Thanks PS-My Medalist had the A2 terminal on the controller-the newer one did not. I just removed the cable from the A2 terminal to the top of the FNR. |

Re: Blown fuse
The OEM TXT controller is 250a. It should have a 200a fuse on it. 60a isn't big enough.
On my 480a controller, I use a 400a fuse. |

Re: Blown fuse
the 60 amp fuse usually goes between the white charger wire and the first pos. post. the larger one (i also use 400) goes between the cable and the neg. post on the last battery.

Re: Blown fuse
Thanks Lib & Jim, I should have known that that fuse wasn't large enough-wasn't thinking and getting too anxious.
Jim, If I find the larger fuse that came off of my txt upgrade, do I have to have the 60 amp, or is the charger fused? Thanks again |

Re: Blown fuse
Really should have a 60 in the charger circuit. I have a 250 in my main circuit with a 400 amp Altrax
