Removing Driven Clutch Info- FYI
My driven clutch was rusted to the shaft because it had never been removed.
Here is what NOT to do and why: Tapping on the clutch (The clutch is made of soft metal, it will crack or break) Heating the shaft and clutch. ( Heating may harm the seal of the transmission) Using a pry bar with force. (The transmission housing is soft and may crack.) Heres what I finally resulted to: I purchased a 3 pulley-puller set from harbor freight tools for $19. I soaked the clutch in PB blaster penetrate. I used the smallest puller and adjusted it to safely remove the clutch. These clutches are $200 and the Transaxle is expensive as well. Cheap price to pay to secure the integrity of your cart. |

Re: Removing Driven Clutch Info- FYI
X2 on the first three "no-nos"...
But for me the PB Blaster (soaked overnight even) and three-fingered puller wasn't enough, the puller just ended up just cracking the sheave: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...nightmare.html |

Re: Removing Driven Clutch Info- FYI
I just tried the 3 fingered puller. It didn't work.
It start to bend the aluminum, so I stopped. Any other suggestions? |

Re: Removing Driven Clutch Info- FYI
PB blaster and a puller didnt work for me either. The clutch was already trashed so I just broke off all the aluminum until I got down to the steel part. I took my cutoff wheel and cut directly over the keyway as far as I could. I then used my largest screwdriver to wedge and split the steel the rest of the way.

If you've tried everything else it may just be that time to accept that your driven clutch will need to be destroyed in order to be removed and do what myself and HBR had to do.

Re: Removing Driven Clutch Info- FYI
It just sounds like a big pain in the a$$.
I'm taking it off so I can put in a stronger spring, and was going to machine it for torque. For my lift and 23" tires. Do either of you have clutch machining or the torque spring? Is it worth pulling the driven clutch off for these to items? |

Re: Removing Driven Clutch Info- FYI
I have both the spring and the machining done on mine. It wasn't a night & day difference, but in my view it was worth it. After my 6" lift and 22" tires, my cart had trouble climbing some of the hills in our campground before the clutch work was done, and it remedied that.
My original plan was to pull my driven clutch, send it to Cart Parts Plus to have them do the machining and install the spring. But I broke it trying to remove it. I then got a used one from a friend and then sent that clutch to Cart Parts Plus for the machining and spring. |

Re: Removing Driven Clutch Info- FYI
I pulled mine this weekend. Using an impact wrench with the 3 bolt puller was the only way I got mine separated. It did not damage anything, but take it easy and don't rush. I used plenty of PB blaster as well. Hope this helps.
