Default Need help on a rear differential for a G9

Took my cart to the local golf cart shop to have a new clutch installed and also to change out the torque spring. I usually always do my work myself but was in a hurry and didn't have time. Well that was a big mistake.

When I got the cart back from them it now has a bad vibration. I started looking at the rear sheaves and you could see the otter sheave was wobbling. I took it back to them to get it replaced and they did replace it but the vibration is still just as bad. They are telling me the input shaft is bent now. Apparently right on the end because the inner sheave is not wobbling. I told them it was not doing that when I brought it to them the first time so they must have heated it or beat on it to bend t like that. they will not admit to anything so now they want $600 to replace the input shaft.

Would I be better off finding another rear end out of a junk cart? Anyone got one here?

Trace the local golf cart junkyard in my area wants $400 for a rearend. I think that Mike Mac in the G8 section could help you out he had his rearend all apart and he has pictures.

That's a bummer trace I would be more than a little ticked off if they did that to me.

I'm still pretty new at all this cart stuff but if it were me and I couldn't get satisfaction from the dealer I'd probably try to find me a used input shaft to fix her back up.

Sorry I can't be more help but maybe one of the more experienced guys will come along and help you out.

Maybe he will chime in. I got to get this thing fixed.

I am very upset with these people. Just don't have a leg to stand on. They have been paid and could care less.

That really sucks. These rears are not that complex or anything, but finding the part might be a pain. Try to call a local dealer and see if they have any parts carts. Wonder what they did, I usually take them off with a 3/4 rod and a 3lb. Couple of hard whacks on the inner hub and they pop right off. Never bent one in fact I never touch the outer sheave, leave the nut on just a turn or two from tight then take it off by hand. You can't touch those sheaves with a tool, you can only use a puller on them and that goes in the center. Maybe they did it installing the spring because those are difficult to get in, and why I don't like them. They are not designed to have that huge spring in there. Issue is, the shaft is far stronger than the sheave. So I'd make sure the sheave is not bent again, but you need to take it off to find out, maybe rotate it on the taper with the shaft locked. You might look to see if they swapped the shaft or trans on you.

Is your outer sheave (fixed sheave) steel or aluminum?

If the outer sheave is steel, could be bent. If aluminum, its cracked, and destined to fail, and dangerous!!

Think it would be pretty hard to bend the shaft, but not saying it can't be done. There are some real idiots out there!! Designed to be removed with a steering wheel puller.

Might be full of crap, but when I had mine apart, looked like it was very well built. High grade of steel! Built for alot of abuse! Smallblock will know!

Pictures and comments of mine start on page 399 of the G8 club.

They replaced the outer sheave with what looks like a cast aluminum piece to try and correct this but it is still vibrating just as bad. I pulled the belt off and run the cart just to isolate the problem and it ran smooth so I know it is all in the rearend.

In nuetral or jacked up, run the engine, does the fixed sheave or the sliding sheave seem to have the "wobble"? If you could take a vid would be helpfull, but since I bought a camcorder and took some, I'm to lame to get them posted
