TXT 3 bolt to 4 bolt conversion???
Hey everyone. I renetly bought a used 1998 EZGO TXT. Last summer I replaced my 3 bolt steering box because the internal spline was missing a few teeth. While I was at it, I replaced the tie rod ends and tie rods. I noticed while I was replacing them the tie rod shafts were bent so good thing I decided to replace them. After I got everything back together I figured out why the tie rod shafts were bent. With the wheels turned right or left, I can take my hand and manual turn 1 or the other the opposite direction about an inch. Underload, if one of the tires catches something while turning, the wheel can “flex” almost 2 inches. This of course puts a lot of stress on the tie rods...something has to give.
So getting ready for this summer I wanted to get it fixed as it is expensive to keep replacing parts and probably dangerous. I started looking at parts and I noticed things didn’t line up. After in depth research I figured out the 3”drop axle and spindles are not correct for this model! I have the newer front axle and spindles with the older steering. No wonder it doesn’t work right!
My question is, cost is pretty much the same to buy OEM parts for my model year, or buy the newer years parts and finish converting to newer TXT model. The only thing tricky would be welding a plate on to convert the 3 bolt steering shaft to 4 bolt. What would you do???
$311 to go backwards, $343 to go forwards.
