G-9 Tranny question

got a basket case tranny. The shaft with the two gears that the fork shifts. Which one is closest to the secondary clutch the bigger one or the smaller one? Or by parts diagram 31 or 29

31-is the reverse gear (look for an "R" stamped on it) and would be closest to the secondary clutch. 29- is the forward gear. If that makes any sence. Is the case halves gasket intacted ? It needs to be or the close tolerances will cause binding.
