Drive Clutch Question
I have an '87 gasser that I put a new drive clutch on late last summer. The problem I am having is the belt used to sit snug between the sheaves when I installed it. It now just rests in the bottom on the shaft with gaps on both sides. Also it used to hold on a small incline with just the belt contacting both the sheaves and the take off was glass smooth. Now you have to set the brake on the same incline or it will roll.
There is a significant gap on both sides of the belt and it jerks when taking off. I watched the pulley with the seat off and it just slams together from all the gap between the belt and sheaves and this is where my jerk is coming from. The belt is new and not worn. I am also getting a lot of noise from it, like loose parts? Am I probably correct in assuming that the clutch is no good anymore and needs replaced? Can I take it apart to fix it? Pics of it apart? Thanks, Jeff |
