Well, I started off checking the spark plug and the only one I looked at appeared in good shape so I put it back in and made sure both caps were on good and tight.
I did have the breather out and tried to get it to rev again and it did. Put ever ything back in place and off I went.
It does have a little slippage or bucking at crawl to slow speed, so I guess that's some kind of clutch or belt adjustment.
Making a choke cable from a universal one I found a the parts store.
This is going to be fun tinkering with.
Thanks for the replies

Check your belt width. Should be 1 3/16" wide. Also, do the valve adjustment since it should be done yearly.

The belt width is 1 1/8.

Will do the valves this afternoon.

Also think I need to adjust the shift linkage.

Your belt is a bit too narrow. The sheaves will have a harder time gripping it if it isn't at the 3/16 width. Yours is still working but you will experience slipping when you put it under an increased load or attempt to climb steep inclines.

OK.. Adjusted the valves and have a makeshift choke in place.
My most pressing issue now is that it doesn't transition smoothly from full speed to slow. It tends to try to cut off and then recovering causing somewhat of a bucking sensation. It's not real severe, but annoying.

So, can you make an adjustment for slower speed performance?

I'm aware I will always have a little lag when decelerating, but this a little too much.

AND... why do these things have to be choked when cold started and it's 90 degrees outside?

Thx

Go through the procedure for adjusting the throttle cables etc in this thread:

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/ezgo-...ntainance.html

Then you can play with the governor following this:

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/ezgo-...4-strokes.html

The other consideration is your compression. Check it and see how it looks.

Usually someone messing with the throttle cable too much causes it to be part throttle when the micro switch kicks in to let it run so slowing down the engine is running to fast and the micro drops out and cuts the ignition.. I usually start by making the cable really loose and with the FNR locked in N start it and set the idle. Then set the cable to just move the throttle plate after the pedal micro switch clicks. May lose that 1 mph but will drive much smoother..

Thats what it sounds like, cutting out before throttle fully closed.

Same problem when starting off. Very jerky.. Usually happens when a 12 year old decides to make the cart faster.. Turn the idle screw all the way in, that will work. Hit the pedal and its 0 to 20 in about 2 seconds with everyone that was on the back is on the ground now..
