Next up: starter/generator question
I had to replace my starter/generator last year and the only problem was that the pulley on it was smaller which caused a lot of slack in the belt. I would like to try taking the pulley and fan off the old one and put it on the new one if possible. My question is, is it possible? Has anyone done this? It's going to be a big pain I the butt if I have to take it all apart just to put a smaller belt on it.

Re: Next up: starter/generator question
You can swap pullies on Hitachi st/gen. Don't know about swapping from Hitachi to ADC. They usually come off easily. Pay attention to any spacers behind the pulley.

Re: Next up: starter/generator question
I'll try that this weekend. If it doesn't work is there any humanly possible way to remove the starter belt without taking the clutch off? I'm trying to avoid it as I have to take the rear shocks off in order to take the clutch out as it's lifted.

Yes take the drive belt off... There's a large bolt on the bottom side of can't remember the size loosen than and loosen the top bolt and the starter generator will loosen belt tensioner just pull it out

Re: Next up: starter/generator question
Why remove either belt. Loosen the st/gen adjuster enough to get belt off pulley, then flip the starter belt out of the way. Who said the belt must be fully removed from the engine bay to work on the starter generator? May not even need to get the st/gen out if you can get a little 3/8 impact on the end of the starter.

Re: Next up: starter/generator question
cg, if I'm not able to replace the pulley I'll have to replace the belt with a smaller one so I was wondering if there was a way.

Re: Next up: starter/generator question
I was able to get the pulleys swapped out in place. Gotta love impact wrenches. The belt is nice and tight now.
