How to trouble shoot the clutch system?
1986 Marathon.
New to me cart. Cart will start up and drive but will not go up any sort of incline. I can feel the drive belt slipping. I have ordered a new belt to see if it is a belt issue. If the new belt does not fix the problem, what are my steps to check and how to go about it? |

A new belt should be 1 3/16" wide. Anything less than 1 inch is junk.
My driven clutch was opening all the way, but it was wobbling on the shaft. It wasn't grabbing the belt tight enough. Look for loose floppy plates. |

Re: How to trouble shoot the clutch system?
Check the surfaces of the clutch that the belt rides on. It should be smooth with no grooves in it for the belt to grip it correctly. Place the cart on jack stands with the rear wheels off the ground and hit the go pedal. The primary clutch should close forcing the belt to the outer part while the secondary clutch opens allowing the belt to ride deeper in.
