Default Cleaning stator???Help

I've posted earlier re;cleaning magneto with no answers. How about calling it a stator I'd really like to put this back together today.
In removing all the packed mud around the magnets it looks like some sort of felt strip came out between them and the casting. Is this supposed to be there or is it just 30 years of built up lint? Thanks for quick reply, please

No felt strip...we clean them out with the air hose. It will take some time, just keep "blowing"

Lee recheck the carb float level and the jets, if you have to choke you have to much air or not enough fuel. also look the air box over for leaks.

Yea shy was going into the wind the other way.

doomsman, thanks, I'll check the carb/airbox next. I replaced the air filter and some how the top doesn't fit tight anymore.I didn't think it mattered, but it seems these 2 strokes are fussy about air.

Two stroke and small engines don't create much in a vacumb signal.
