Default Deep cycle batteries

Has any one ever tried using good deep cycle 12v trolling batteries in their carts instead of golf cart batteries. Had a friend tell me it works great. And he's using Walmart batteries. Just looking for some insite. Running a txt 36v with 3in lift 22in tires

Deep cycle/marine batteries do not have the capacity required for golf cart service. It takes lots of plate surface area to make that current capacity, and that is sorely lacking in deep cycle/marine batteries. They are well suited for their intended purpose. They are not suitable as replacements for golf cart batteries. They will let you down when you need them the most.

I speak from experience. Many years ago, I tried using those 12V Wal-Mart deep cycle/marine batteries for a small solar power system. I was trying to save money. I learned my lesson after changing out banks of them repeatedly about every 14 - 16 months of use. There is no replacement for having enough capacity for the intended purpose.

Long story short your friend is full of $H!T.... It might start out great as they do cost a lot less but it will not stay great for long. Within a 6 months to year they will begin to degrade to the point that you will see shorter and shorter distance or lack pep... Commercial/Golf Cart Batteries are entirely different than marine grade deep cycle batteries....

I saw/fixed a cart filled with 6 yellow top Optimas ($$ ouch $$) , configured for 36v. In an ezgo industrial use cart. They thought they had done the greatest thing ever for their cart, all terminals were clean, never needed water, good range. "Life was great", for a while! Less than 2 years after, they sent it to me for general battery lame-ness. Batteries were shot. Had to explain the difference in batteries to them, and how All these batteries could possibly be bad so quickly and all at once. The only part that hurt.... , it belonged to the local firehouse, that means we all paid for their lesson.

You're absolutely right there is no need to sugar coat what we as a COLLECTIVE know as compared to what one or two individual might think...

Not pointing to anyone in particular here but it baffles me to no end when one or two people of questionable knowledge seemingly go against the grain claiming that their experience surmounts an industry wide knowledge...

Where's the like button for the above statement? Spot on!

The friend said they work great. Sure, compared to dead batteries, they work "great"...for a short period of time. ;)

I have 12v. Deep cycles in my 36v. resisted club cart with a onboard marine charger.
Working out great for the last couple years, So yes it does work.
But i was able to get good used batteris for free so that helps my expence.Bought a coupke used onboard batt. Chargers from a online boating fourm that iam on.
I am more familiar with boating/ trolling motor batts. Being tgat I bass fish tournament s.
And I usely get 4-6 years out of certain batteries.
The onboard charger I installed on my cart actually works out great for me and my wife, all she had to do is plug the cord in after evey use which is already on cart.
So far it's great but time will tell and iam hoping I can get a few more batteries for free for next project.lol

How much is the cart used, how far driven and how often is going to be a deciding factor...

Normal cruise in my campground covers 5 miles and 30 minutes (multiple stops for cocktails). I can get four of those in on one charge before the pack hits 50% SOC. 6-8v batteries, 48v system.
