Motor Issue

Having a bit of an issue with some components on one of the posts of the motor melting (see photo attached). The motor is still working though I'm not about to drive it and compound the issue. Afraid it will short out the whole system. Does anyone know if this can be repaired???

Judging by the appearance of the ends, I would say there is rust and corrosion built up on the connectors causing resistance...which generates heat.

You can find replacement crimp on ends at NAPA and other auto parts stores.
I usually crimp them on then solder to seal the connection from moisture intrusion then add heat-shrink over that.

The white residue and the flat grey color of the post are evidence of very high temps. I would suggest taking the wire and lock-nuts loose and cleaning all surfaces. The concern is that if the post and cable got that hot, the braided copper stator wire on the inside is likely smoked as well. I would suggest you prepare yourself for a motor repair or replacement soon. :(

Looks like the nylon feed thru's around the bolt have melted. Recommend having a motor rebuilder replace them and clean the brush card and commutator while it's there.

Thanks for the response. By chance could you recommend anyone in the North Florida (Jacksonville) area? If not I'm sure I am hunt one down.

Also would you agree on the opinion of corrosion causing the issue? Just want to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Also not sure if you can see by the photo though the bolt is no longer coming straight out. Is this caused just due to the nylon feed through melting?

Didnt see excess corrosion but could cause it too. The other motor heat problem happens when the unit is driven with low voltage batteries. This causes an excess current draw to get the power.

The batteries are about due for replacement. Hard to get 18 holes in with one charge. Thanks for the info! Will see about getting motor rebuilt and some fresh batteries.
