help no start

i have a mid 90 g 8 and im having trouble figuring out why it wont start very cold here dont know if that will make a difrence but i went to start my cart today and nothing wouldnt click or any thing i noticed that the starting silanoid bracket was loose so tried tightning it and still nothing so i grabbed an extra silanoid that i had lying around and threw it in tightned down bolts on the bracket and not a click or any thing i have 12 volts at the battery and to the sylanoid all three other posts on battery are grounded acourding to my meter but wene i hit the peddle i still cant get it to click any help would be great thanks

yamaha g8 was also wondering if these silanoids need to be grounded on the bracket

Check the microswitch under the gas pedal. It may be so cold the plunger is not moving to engage the solenoids. If there is a rubber boot over the plunger, remove it. It may be freezing and holding the plunger back. Any moisture in this area will freeze and cause the switch to stick. My G1's used to do this.

Try jumping across the solenoid and see if the starter/generator will activate. If so, bad solenoid. Usually they will at least click so it may be the pedal switch but having 12 volts to the solenoid makes me think a bad solenoid.

I had the same problem last week with my G1... Contact smallblock450sl... That guy was a lifesaver for me!!

Yep, he can usually tell you what is wrong with your cart before it even happens.

First, Sabercat/Spriddle/Tonka...Thanks for the kind words. I really try to help when I can. Lady Bug, I would ask you to read the "sticky" , "so your car wont start". You will need a volt meter. I look at a solenoid as a "light switch", you push the accelrator pedal and the solenoid is "activated/flipped on" the current can "flow" thru it. 2 quick tests. Test #1-volt meter positive lead (on positive battery post), negative lead to the small black wire at the solenoid. you "must" have 12 volts or more at all times (ie: accelerator pedal pushed or not), if not a ground wire problem in the wire harness. Test#2-volt meter negative lead (on negative battery post) and the volt meter positive lead on the small red/white wire on the solenoid, you should have 12 volts or more when the key switch is on and you push the accelrator pedal. If tests good-bad solenoid, if not, check the voltage reading coming out of the "stop switch/micro switch at the accelerator pedal, you could have a "broken" wire between the micro switch and the solenoid.
