I ended up going with the Harley barrel key switch and battery shut off switch.

Considering the original key switch had 2 wires and the Harley switch has 3 wires, can someone explain where the 3rd wire goes?

To the starter switch? My guess is that third wire is of no use at all to activate an electric cart.

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, for 100$ does not seem like a bad idea.

Mind doing a write up on how you did it?

Seeing that it seems like the 3rd wire for the Harley key switch isn't critical, I plan to not use it to keep things simple.

As for the battery cutoff switch, looks like a very easy connection with just the 2 bolts, but can someone tell me how to hook it up and incorporate with a battery reducer, new key switch etc..

Also, my battery cutoff switch says it has a voltage rating of 48v. Does that mean it is still compatible w a 36 volt system?

The key switch only directly turns on the 48v->12v converter so You can keep the lights on or listen to music, but the rest of the 48v system does not work until the kill switch closes the relay.
@Sergio - really interested in this circuit - do you have any more information that you could provide on how to make this circuit? Sounds like a really fun DIY project!

Thanks

Here is a thread with a lot more details and a diagram:
https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/show...9110&page=3#23
I have been using for over 7 years and works well.

One thing I mentioned in that thread but is not in the drawing is I have an LED wired in series with the negative wire that goes to the "D2 & relay coil" junction.

The 48v relays I linked use 20mA for the coil which is ideal for a regular LED without any additional resistors needed.

It gives me positive confirmation when my magnet goes over the dash area where the reed switch is hidden behind, even though I usually can hear the relay "click", having the Green LED come ON tells me the cart is enabled.
