DPI Charger always on
So, the new DPI charger is freaking AWESOME!!!
Love it. I have a question for you DPI owners...once plugged into 120 volts, the charger is always on. There is a slight hummm coming from it and the Power On LED is lit. Most of the time the DC cord will be plugged it and charging or maintaining with the float mode. My question is, should I just leave it plugged into the AC power on the weekends when the cart is running around the campground? It will be plugged back in to charge whenever the cart is at the camper, but I just want to know if there is any concern leaving it powered on all of the time even when not charging. Let me know what you think. |

Re: DPI Charger always on
Mine is, [unless I have to move it in the shop] until I move it to it's permanent home in a machine shed. Draws hardly anything when not plugged in to the cart. It has a cool, barely audible hum when "idling" [enter a Tim Taylor quiet AAoough here.]

Re: DPI Charger always on
Just got one and was wondering the same thing. I unplug it every time, doesn't take much energy to unplug/plug 2 recepticals VS 1

Re: DPI Charger always on
Well, my charger will be inside the shed at camp and the DC cord comes out the side of the shed and plugs into the cart. So if we were to unplug it each time we would need to go into the shed, unplug it, back outside and get into cart. All fine and dandy, but at some point the charger will be plugged back into the cart and someone will forget to go to the other side of the shed, go in and plug the charger back into the AC, and the cart isn't going to get charged.

Re: DPI Charger always on
From the DPI owners manual page 7:
6.3 Connect the DC cord set plug to the charging receptacle by grasping the plug body or handle and pushing the plug straight into the receptacle. Then connect charger’s AC cord set to AC power. WARNING: DO NOT DISCONNECT THE DC CORD SET PLUG FROM THE CHARGING RECEPTACLE WHEN THE CHARGER IS ON. THE RESULTING ARCING AND BURNING OF THE PLUG AND RECEPTACLE COULD CAUSE THE BATTERIES TO EXPLODE. IF THE CHARGER MUST BE STOPPED, FIRST DISCONNECT THE AC POWER SUPPLY CORD FROM ITS AC OUTLET, AND THEN DISCONNECT THE CHARGER DC CORD SET PLUG FROM THE CHARGING RECEPTACLE. http://www.dpipower.com/store/MNUL/General_Chargers.pdf Last edited by 1sharphook; 03-29-2017 at 11:39 AM.. Re: DPI Charger always on
an easy fix would be to switch the outlet the charger is plugged into
switch could be outside while the charger is warm snug and dry inside |

Re: DPI Charger always on
I never unplug during the bulk charge without unplugging it, [rare I ever need to] but I haven't witnessed any scary spark when unplugging during the float stage, and I have a crowfoot plug.
