Sorry if I seemed rude, didn't mean to be....but what you described tells us exactly what you have you do in fact have a SERIES drive system. what is under that cover is your F&R switch.

AZ.....if you look under the seat, passenger side, you will see two covers, the one closer to the front, which the rod goes to looks like this.

what is under it is your F& R switch.....and it looks like this...

Oh please.....No worries.....Yep it kinda looks like that.....Looks as raw as the first time I saw an elevator relay box!...Very primitive..

As I said, I will go slow with this, your information in priceless! Thank you! :)

Elevator relay boxes became popular in the 30s and 40s. And yes, that is exactly where the early electric cart technology comes from !
