Default Battery Meter Question / Lights

I just recently got a 1997 DS 48V Series Cart.

There is no battery meter on the cart, just a warning light on the dash.

If I get a battery meter does it go in the place of the current battery light?
Does it "drop in" replace the light or is there new wiring needed? Is there any benefit to keeping the factory lamp?

Also thi cart came with tail lights (with brake pedal actuation), Headlights (with High & low beams) and a (loud ***) horn.

I don't see any "voltage reducer" but I do see what looks to be a large resistor potted with an epoxy or urethane in a tray made of Al tied to the frame. Could this be what is supplying voltage to the light accessories?

Thanks!

The new battery meter doesnt go in place of the light. You can take the light out, throw it away and enlarge the hole to install the new meter there.

This is the device in question.

It looks to run to a terminal block up by the FNR switch.

Ok, now that I know what it does, and the cart is 20 years old.

Is this reducer efficient compared to newer systems available?

Also, as read the responses it sounds like I should leave the current battery light in tact and just add a voltage meter for the pack on a completely different circuit?

Without this old battery light I won't see the output from the OBC if there is a charge problem?
