2000 Yamaha G16 Rear Noise
Good afternoon everyone!
I am working on a friends 2000 Yamaha G16 gas cart and there is a weird noise coming from the rear part of the engine. I did notice that the noise is made as your drive it and as you push it when it is engaged in gear. Hopefully this video will give you some insight on where the noise may be coming from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS7A9Z6kwTE |

To me, it sounds like really bad input shaft bearing on transaxle.
Also, your starter generator belt looks really loose, and your drive belt looks wasted. |

Re: 2000 Yamaha G16 Rear Noise
I am thinking about tackling this myself. I have replaced transmission gears in a club car before, I am hoping it is just as easy. Can anyone tell me if they have done it and how easy it was? I know the Club Car all I did was pull the housing apart and take pics. Then the gears kind of just fit in the house which was nice.
With that being said, is there a place where I can buy all the bearings? |

Re: 2000 Yamaha G16 Rear Noise
The input shaft bearing isnt too bad, but some work is involved, and the clutch will need removed. Dont forget to remove the detent ball (or it &its spring could get lost in the transmission to destroy parts later). Easiest to do this by standing the axle on end, with passenger side down, resting on its wheel & tire. Since yamaha sells nothing in "kits", be suspect of the origins of the bearings found in a "kit".

Re: 2000 Yamaha G16 Rear Noise
I would recommend, that if your going in to the transmission, to just change all the bearings and seals. The governor bushing and seal are prone to leak, and the only way to change them is by removing everything inside the case. Change the 12 bucks worth of parts while your in there.
