Default alltrax contoller drops out

have a 1995 ezgo TXT 36 volt with an Alltrax DCX 400 controller . The cart was giving me problems that pointed to bad batteries, so I upgraded and went with a set of lithium. Now the controller will drop out if a give it full throttle quickly. The controller is flashing 3 red lights. If i roll on the throttle smoothly and never go full throttle it rides around ok. Have checked a few things, but looking for ideas as this is all new to me.

Most likely the issue is the Lithium battery pack, what kind is it?

Those lithium "drop-in" batteries are selling like hot cakes but most do not work with Golf Carts regardless what the uninformed sellers tell you.

Likely the battery is dropping OFF under load and when it reconnects you get an HPD error (3 red flashes).

Their 100AH and larger may handle a golf cart, but the 54AH does not allow enough current to be used with a golf cart.

Thumbs up Re: alltrax contoller drops out

HPD stands for high pedal disable. I would recommend going to www.alltraxinc.com and select Legacy Products at the top of the home page. You'll see DCX and you'll also see Controller Pro among various other options. select controller pro and download the software(FREE) Next you'll want to get the specified cable to plug into your dcx settings... Once in the settings call Alltrax Inc customer service @ (541)476 3565 . * There is a manual to the controller pro software that you can also download for free, I recommend you do this as it makes understanding what each setting is, and what it does much clearer!

Do the batteries have an over-current device of some type that disconnects them from the load, or would lowering the Under Voltage slider in Controller Pro help.

Of course repeated 5C or 6C discharges might be detrimental to the battery's health.

The 54AH model specs on their site shows a continuous discharge of 50A and 100A pulse.

Unfortunately that is the flaw in most "drop-in" designs since the battery has no interface with the cart harness/controller in order to provide a safe disconnect in case of "overheat" (not just LV and HV).

The "overheat" is mostly in the electronics that control the discharge, not the lithium cell themselves.

That is the most plausible explanation to why he only gets the HPD when accelerating hard, the battery drops and comes back while his foot is still in the accelerator pedal which causes the HPD.

If the old DCX does like the new XCT, setting the low voltage to a value higher than the battery disconnect voltage allows the Controller to reduce the current automatically without having to set a lower value to the "max battery amps".

so the battery manufacture Dakota Lithium recognizes they have an issue with the 54ah batteries and are basically replacing the 54ah with 100ah for free. I will go this route and see if the problem continues.

Stay Tuned.
