Default What year to buy

If I were looking at used electric EZGO carts what year(s) should I be looking for? When did they make the change from resistor to solid state?

Thanks

Started producing solid state carts with the Marathon models about '90-'91. But they could be either solid state or resistor so you have to look under the seat.
Medalist models replaced the Marathon in 1994. All solid state. TXT replaced Medalist in 1996. Medalist had a metal body and TXTs are plastic but the TXT bodies could be retrofitted on the Medalist chassis. TXT are all solid state.

About 1995 the DCS drive system was introduced. First attempt at a "sepex" motor system. In 2000 EZGO dropped the DCS system for PDS, a more modern sepex system. Sometime before 2000 Medalist production ceased.

All TXTs are 36v and could be either series or sepex until 2010. By then the series carts were gone and mid 2010 going forward all TXTs were 48v. All three of the major manufactures abandoned 36v carts by 2010 or before.

Opinion: You don't want a 36v cart unless you just want to putter around the yard or small farm, go to the mailbox or things like that. All modern carts are at least 48v with some at 72v. All are sepex or have an AC motor. EZGO has had an AC motored cart since 2008.
