Default Smoke, backfire

97 DS gas CC, Kawasaki FE 290
Compression 180 psi
Installed new stock carb
Idle screw 1 1/2 turns from lightly seated position.
Installed new fuel lines
Changed oil, 5W-30 Pennzoil (one and a third, didn't change oil filter)
Using 94 Octane Gasoline
Installed power spring, helix, slides in driven clutch
Rev limiter deactivated
Had the zip ties on the governor, but cut them off.

Problems -
1. There is a great deal of white smoke coming out of the exhaust.
2. It still backfires on occassion.

Any suggestions?

3 days with no response, so let's try this. I'll decrease the amount of oil, and see if it stops smoking. With regards to the carb, it is brand new, so it must be the spring holding the butterfly valve or some sort of timing/micro switch problem.

Can somebody tell me how to find, adjust, or buy a new micro switch for the carb?

Ok, I guess nobody has any suggestions. For those in the future, there are 3 things that could keep the butterfly valve from closing.

1. Clogged (inside the carb)
2. Screw that touches the butterfly bracket (not the idle screw). This is adjustable, so unscrew it until the valve fully closes.
3. Spring that keeps tension on the butterfly bracket/valve.

I think I fixed my back fire problem by unscrewing #2 and putting a zip tie on #3 to create more tension.
