2002 EZ Go, Loose Drive Belt
I am trying to determine whether I need a new drive belt or just need to adjust the one I have? I would prefer to adjust the current belt. It seems to have too much slack, but is a farely new belt. How do you adjust the drive belt to tighten it? My cart is 2002 EZGO Gas powered unit with a robins motor.
Thanks |

Oh and can anyone supply a picture of where the governor is?? I am not familiar with this cart at all, bought it used and no manual or anything. What do you typically get out of taking unhooking the governor?

is the cart running ok. the belts should have some slack in it. you can get a shorter belt for more power though i just put a shorter one on mine and made a big difference

No the belts so loose it just stays still while the clutch and everything spin.

Sounds more like the drive clutch isn't working. Does the drive clutch close in on the belt when you rev it up? If not then you may want to remove the clutch and find out what is wrong. Could be rusted up or something.

There is no adjustment on the belt. Each model has a specific belt for it. Like lomcevac said, sounds like a clutch issue. When you accelerate the drive clutch should close up on the belt turning it and the rear clutch. Put it in neutral and push the accelerator and see what happens..

Ok when I put the cart in neutral everything turns and acts normal. It's when I put it in F or R that the rear clutch/drive? seems to stick and not turn???

Re: 2002 EZ Go, Loose Drive Belt
O.k... All is good in neutral.. Under acceleration the drive clutch closes and the driven clutch opens.. Correct? When in f or r the driven clutch will not move at all, the belt just slides around it.. Also correct? If this is the case I'd try to move it by hand to see if it's just stuck or something in the rear end has come apart and is binding up..

Correct! Moving it by hand it turns fine and the cart will roll either forward or backward.
