how do i test speed switch?
I just aqquired an 82 electric club car and it seems to have plenty of power and after some testing determined the motor itself works and is fine... its the 5 soleinoid setup and with the key in the on position they all click but it just wont go. I have searched all over and closest i figure is a bad speed switch assembly.. the square box with red ends mounted under seat toward the left (drivers) side of my cart, does anyone know a way to test this part?

Re: how do i test speed switch?
Put a jumper cable across the 2 large cables of the solenoid Closest to the driver's side of the cart.... does it run?

Re: how do i test speed switch?
No actually it acts like a dead short almost as the way it would act to run a cable from a live wire to the ground. No jump n the cart or anything just sparks until removed.. But if I run a jumper from live feed to the outgoing side of that solenoid it runs without pedal and only in foward

Scottyb is on the right track with this one, but FYI... you can save yourself some time and effort. Don't take the speed switch apart. If it was bad, the solenoids wouldn't click. Especially all 5 of them.

Re: how do i test speed switch?
Sounds to me like you may have a bad master solenoid ( the one closest to the driver's side)
You really don't want to open the little silver and red box if you do not have to and you have not proved you have to yet. |

Re: how do i test speed switch?
Ok so I guess I was in a rush or something so I rechecked it and suggestions were right it's the solenoid closest to the driver side... When jumped it runs fine. Thanks for the help

Is there anyway to test the speed switch assembly with a multimeter? My friend acquired a 1988 CCDS with no batteries. we are going through the whole thing, he is on a budget therefore, wants to keep it stock for now. |
