I have one ROUGH riding DS. I put "heavy duty springs" on her when I installed the rear seat.

The ride is fine with 4 passengers, tolerable with 2, but punishing alone. She's shaking herself to death.

A (non-cart owning) friend of mine suggested cutting a few of the springs off. I haven't looked to see if that's within my skill set.

I'd be more comfortable (literally) if I could find a "medium duty" set, and maybe sell the HD's, but I don't see them.

Any ideas?

yeah... My cart is pretty "Bone Jarring" also!

2 things you can do...

1) the leafs ARE removable, you can take out 1 or 2 leafs by removing the center allen screw and nut,
BUT... you'll have to reshape the 2... what's the word... "spring clamps" on each side to accomidate the missing leafs.

OR...

2) IF you still have your old leaf springs, Cart Parts Plus has helper leafs...

you could also reduce the air pressure in the tires. This would probably work better if you put a lift and oversize tires. You could then air them up when you need to haul a big load and back them way off when you are flying solo. You would be surprised how much better soft tires feel.

Jim, I have no doubt that you're right, but that's actually one of my concerns. I want a new set of wheels and tires, but I was hoping to avoid the expense and time of putting a lift kit on.

Without a lift, I'm very limited in wheel choice - most of which seem to be low profile, which limits how much give I'd have in the sidewall.

Well... not necessarily... when I got my HD springs from CPP,
CPP and All Sports were still in the process of coming up with helper springs, (and that was only a year ago)
BUT... Last winter, I had the chance to remove a leaf on my buddies cart, (A.S. HD springs)
and it seems... just O.K.... but, could use 1 more out!
I haven't tried it on mine yet, but I will this coming winter!

And as for Jims reply... he's right, I have 5 lbs in my 25's and it really does help!
but, still not near as "cushy" and I would like, so I do my best to vear around the speed bumps at the campground!

Ah, ok. I was wondering why I hadn't heard of the helpers.

If I only remove one leaf, should it be a longer or a shorter one?

I used the helper springs after adding a rear seat and they are great. When it is just me and maybe a passenger in the front, the rear springs ride nice and soft, just like stock. Then when I get passengers on the back, the added weight squats the rear just a little and the helper spring kick in at that point keeping things level and riding smooth. For the price and ride quality they are hard to beat. I originally bought them just to hold me over till I saved a few bucks for the HD springs. Now, I would not even trade them for HD springs!

We removed the second shortest one... not a heck of alot of difference!

Probably more trouble then it's worth, but...
Another thought, back in the 70's we used to use air shocks to boost the rear of our cars up and stiffen the ride. I have no idea if anyone makes air shocks that would fit a Club Car, but, you could install an air tank and a release valve on the cart so that you could adjust as needed. Just refill the tank when you got back home...
