Re: 1996 Club Car questions
OK just tested the voltages after the charger hasn't been on since last Tuesday. The batteries are still bubbling...what does that mean? Someone said it could be a short? Anyway, the voltages were around 8.2 or 8.3 each and across the bank it was 49.6. After not being on the chgr for a week and batt's still bubbling, not sure what to do....

Re: 1996 Club Car questions
Sounds like bad batteries. I would charge for 12 to 14 hours before I took it off charge I would check pack voltage total. This should be 59 plus voltage. Unplug the charger let set 12 hours and check voltage and specific gravity on each batterie. ($10) hydrometer from auto parts. The Batteries should read 8.5 volts. The hydrometer has marks to say what condition the batteries are.

Re: 1996 Club Car questions
Gleemo- Yup still bubbling after a week. Someone thought that this might mean there is a short somewhere in the system?

Re: 1996 Club Car questions
I have two batteries that read bad and the bubble a long time after charge. Replaced the batteries and the problem went away.

Re: 1996 Club Car questions
You can charge the system and then disconect the last Negative batterie #6 and the first positive on #1 batterie. Let it set that will help trouble shoot whether there is a short or not.

Re: 1996 Club Car questions
Well, the mystery continues. All the batteries tested fine. Even under load(running) the voltage didn't drop much on each batt. I did the reset on the OBC and then the cart seemed alot slower especially in reverse. I ran it around the block and now it seems ok.....WTH! It is back up to around 15-16 mph. Is that a normal speed for the 3.75 hp motor?
Also...the capacitor on the solenoid has no more of the plastic shield on it. It looks like it melted. Is that normal? Should there be voltage going to the yellow wire that goes to the motor when the key is off and the FNR switch is in neutral? I'm getting voltage across it. Thanks for all the help so far!!!! |

Re: 1996 Club Car questions
You should have a 470 OHM 10Watt Pre Charged Resistor that goes across the large terminals on Solenoid and either a 1N4004 1Amp DIODE for stock solenoids, or for 200 amp and up solenoids a 1N5408 3Amp DIODE that goes across the small leads on Solenoid that has a band near one end that should be toward the input terminal.

Re: 1996 Club Car questions
Old Mec--I do have the large and small diodes. The large one has the covering/tubing burned off. Should there be power on both sides of those all the time? How can I test the solenoid or the controller to see if they are bad and causing draw on my batteries?
